First Impressions by Ava Rado Harte BRIEF ORGANIZATION HISTORY
The Center for Emerging Art, Inc. has been presenting a comprehensive annual arts program, performances, exhibitions, lectures, workshops and seminars and community art programs in Miami-Dade County for the past ten years. Our mission is to facilitate a forum in which artists and the public can together challenge traditions, explore new ideas, and serve as a gateway through which the artists can enter the arts mainstream
Major Accomplishments: "Growing up in Miami Beach" Legacy Quilt Growing up in Miami Beach project connects the youth and senior population in the community to collaborate in the creation of art, sharing stories of what it was like growing up in Miami Beach
CULTURAL AWARENESS: hands-on Workshops and Artist-Residencies at the Hope Center in Little Havana, Prime Time Seniors VFW, the City of Miami Beach Log Cabin Training Center, the Miami Beach Senior Center in Miami Beach
DIGITAL DIVIDE funded by Commissioner Bruno Burreiro for the program works with people with learning and developmental disabilities at the Hope Center, in Little Havana. Digital Divide Exhibition at the Old Capitol Gallery, Tallahassee from July 2 to October 9, 2004
PREVENTION through the ARTS, an alcohol/drug prevention program through the arts funded by The Childrens Trust, State of Florida and Miami-Dade County Dept. of Cultural Affairs INTERNATIONAL CULTURAL EXCHANGE is in its 7th year presenting "Together-Egyutt" concerts with artists from Budapest, Hungary and Miami and South Florida to create performances and exhibitions funded by the State of Florida Division of Cultural Affairs and Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs.
ARTS under the STARS and HOLIDAY PROGRAMMING at The Biltmore Hotel - 2001-2006 AVANT GARDEN: an African-American Slave Garden was created during 2005-2006, which replicated the an authentic slave garden from the 1700s with the vegetables, herbs were planted during slavery for food, medicine and sustenance purposes. The program was accompanied by an educational outreach at Miami Beach Senior High School, where students expressed visually the daily lives of the slaves.
